White Cement Paint Used for Restoration Work at Stadium Merdeka, Malaysia

Stadium Merdeka (Independence Stadium), which situated in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was built for Malaysia’s declaration of independence on August 31, 1957. There were many events which inclusive of international major sport events and international concert performances had been held for the past four decades. In February 2003, Stadium Merdeka was name as a national heritage building.

In early 2007, work was started to restore it back to its original state in 1957. The restoration works include demolishing some of the terrace built over the years and painting work. “Skimcem” Cement Paint manufactured using Aalborg White cement, was specified and used for the repainting of ceiling and concrete columns of the main grand-stand. The old paintwork was carefully removed using water jet and hand-scrapping, two coats of cement paint was then applied restoring to its original looks and at the same time providing a tough coat of protection.

The restoration work was completed in time for the 50th Merdeka Celebration on August 31, 2007.
