Aalborg Portland Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. in Malaysia's ARCHIDEX 2012 Exhibition

Aalborg Portland Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (APM) participated in the 13th Malaysia Architecture, Interior Design & Building Exhibition (ARCHIDEX 2012) from 4th to 7th July 2012 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Malaysia. ARCHIDEX 2012 is an annual event organized primarily for architects and attended by more than 30,000 visitors from 54 countries to keep abreast of developments in the building environment.

APM’s booth was built with a curved white cement panel of 4m in height as the booth’s main wall structure, to reveal the character of AALBORG WHITE cement applications in vertical monolithic tone wall panel cladding systems. To give a contemporary setting to the monolithic tone wall cladding system, a fiber optic system was also embedded into the panel during the casting process and installed as part of the booth wall structure. The fiber optic system illuminated the wall with twinkling lights thus creating a dynamic effect on the usually lifeless wall. In addition, a spiral shaped water stairway made from white cement was also fixed to the booth structure to create a pleasing, welcoming ambience which provided a treat for the senses – auditory, visual and tactile.

Apart from that, the White Wall Solution also formed part of the highlights in the showcase. White Wall Solution is a new approach to package white cement-based dry mix products with selected bricks/blocks as a whole system to be offered to the construction industry. The White Wall Solution offers great cost savings as the bricks/blocks require 1 to 2 mm joint mortar for laying the bricks/blocks, which provides good alignment for 10mm thickness wall rendering. This is possible when AALBORG WHITE cement is used as the main binder in dry mix products, thanks to its high compressive strength.

Among the intricate designs on display were a range of Glass Fiber Reinforced Sandstone garden landscapes which were inspired by organic designs and curvilinear shapes, using AALBORG WHITE cement as a main binder to create a sandstone surface texture. The booth was a success and our participation in the exhibition strengthened our presence and image as a global white cement player in the local building industry.
